Police Launch 2021 Crime Statistics

The Director of Corporate Affairs of the Sierra Leone Police, AIG Memunatu Conteh-Jalloh on Tuesday 25 May 2021, at a launch of the crime statistics at the officers` mess in Kingtom, Freetown, disclosed to members of the press that the police recorded/received over sixty three thousand cases all over the country in 2020/2021.
She furthered that, Western Area has the highest crime rate than the provinces.
She went on to state that out of the 63,000 cases recorded, Family Support Unit received over 12,000 cases, which includes domestic violence, rape and sexual penetration, 4,000 traffic cases received, 265 murder cases.
She noted that in the area of robbery, they recorded 700 in 2018/19, but they was reduced to 70 in 2020/21 because of robust patrols day and night.
AIG Jalloh further said that drug abuse was on the increase in 2018/19, but drastically reduced in 2020/21 because of the proactive work of the police.
She furthered that the police need more motorbikes and vehicles so that they will go into the interior to do their work, especially motorbikes to enter villages were crimes are committed and bring perpetrators to book.
She also said the area of sexual penetration is being interfered and compromised by certain people leading to the first lady, Fatima Bio to launch a project call `Hands Off Our Girls’, to bring perpetrators to book.
The occasion was climaxed by the launch of the 2021 Crime Statistics.
