The newly appointed first-ever resident Ambassador of  Sierra  Leone  to the  Kingdom  of Morocco, His Excellency  Atumani Dainkeh, yesterday  met  with Sierra  Leonean students  pursuing various  courses in Tertiary  Institutions  in  the  Kingdom  of Morocco.

This  meeting involving  the  new Ambassador  and  the  Students  is  the  first  meeting between  him  and Sierra  Leoneans living in Morocco.

Key  issues  that were  discussed during  the  meeting between Ambassador  Dainkeh  and  the Students  included but not  limited  to, the  general  welfare of  the  Students, late receipt  of  their stipends  which  is provided  by  the Government  of  Sierra Leone  and  the  need for  government to increase  the  amount paid to students as stipends or allowances.

But  the problem  with regards the delay of the  stipend payments  seems to have been partly resolved as a result of  the  opening of the Embassy and assigning of an Ambassador in the person  of  His Excellency  Atumani Dainkeh.

Just  around  six  weeks  of taking  up post,  the Ambassador  in collaboration with the  Ministry of Higher  Education in Freetown was able to  facilitate  the transfer  of  the Student’s  stipends. And  this  has made the students pretty much excited and they have commended and  expressed gratitude  to  His Excellency  the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio for appointing a very hard-working Ambassador and for opening an Embassy in Morocco.

Ambassador Atumani  Dainkeh during  the  meeting encouraged the students  to  continue  to  abide  by the  laws  of Morocco. He  also admonished   them  to  see  themselves as  Ambassadors  of the  Republic  of Sierra  Leone  and  to always  aim  at achieving  the  best in  both  their academic  pursuits as  well  as  their general  conducts  outside   their  class rooms .

He  assured  them  of President  Bio’s government’s  continual support to education  generally  through his  already  set commitment  to human  capital development  which has  ushered  in  the free  quality education  with  21% of  the  national budget  allocated to education  alone.

Meanwhile, a  general  meeting involving  the  wider Sierra  Leonean Community  in  Rabat  is  scheduled for June 12th,  2021.
