In a letter dated 19th May 2021, the Deputy Chairperson/Leader of the Unity Party, Madam Naasu G. Fofanah resigned her position with immediate effect.
According to Madam Fofanah, her decision to resign from the post of Deputy Chairperson/Leader of the Unity Party can be attributed to the lack of recognition of her position in the party.
She said, “My lack of knowledge on issues including important political decisions on behalf of the party are usually heard of through third parties or via social media…For example, I have never been consulted or briefed on our participation and leadership of the ongoing coalition of political parties on national issues”.
Madam Fofanah continued, “This latest incident makes me feel redundant and as such, I can no longer confidently refer to myself as your Deputy Leader. I cannot operate under the current system”.
The party’s Chairperson/Leader and flag bearer is Madam Femi Claudius Cole. Her dictatorial leadership style has led to the dramic resignation of her deputy, Madam Naasu Fofanah.
A spokesman for the PPRC (Political Parties Registration Commission) has confirmed Madam Naasu Fofanah’s resignation as Deputy Chairperson/Leader of the Unity Party.
Meanwhile, Madam Naasu Fofanah has confirmed that she remains a member of the Unity Party.
