On the second day of his Ministerial tour, the Chief Minister on Thursday June 24th 2021 visited the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Trade & Industry to brief them about his role and mandate and to map out collaborative strategies to help enhance and support Ministries achieve their strategic plans.

Chief Minister Saffa told the Ministers and their Technical experts that his delivery unit at State House is not breeding new Ministries but rather to facilitate and enhance delivery of key sector plans and annual work plans of MDAs.

The approach to assessment has slightly changed from what was hitherto known as Performance Tracking to a Delivery Enhancing Arm of the Presidency, the Chief Minister Saffa emphasized. According to the Chief Minister, every Ministry will now do a self-assessment through a weekly delivery portal which will outline the work programs of each Ministry with their attendant timelines which will be monitored by the Presidency and the individual Ministers themselves.

The Chief Minister cautioned that the onus is now on Ministers to ensure that work programs and sector plans submitted are adequately monitored for delivery.

At the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the Chief Minister Jacob Jusu Saffa informed them that Government is monitoring services at key tertiary hospitals especially Connaught Hospital and urged the Ministry to develop Business Models for Hospital services and management.

He urged the Ministry to pay particular attention to the Health Service Commission and its attendant payroll dilemma.

Addressing officials at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Chief Minister challenged the various heads of agencies under the Ministry to also develop business models and assured them of his team’s readiness to support in the areas of policies and legislations.

Both Ministries are among the few that have submitted their Sector Policies, Strategic Plans and Annual Work Programs, for which the Chief Minister was very pleased.
