Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) and Trocaire have provided financial support to the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs in its campaign for the enactment of the 2021 Gender Empowerment Bill.
The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Madam Manty Tarawallie on Friday, 20th August, met with the Gender Committee and Female Caucus of the Sierra Leone Parliament to lobby them.
Chairperson of the Gender Committee, Hon. Catherine Tarawallie of Constituency 037, Bombali District and other Members of Parliament (MPs), including their male counterparts advocated overwhelmingly for the enactment of the Bill.
Hon. Catherine Tarawallie promised to discuss with her main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party leadership to support the Bill.
The Honorable Members acknowledged that with unity within the two committees, the Bill will be passed into law.
The Minister thanked the MPs and said she will continue lobbying till Parliament resumes sittings in September.
Meanwhile, the Minister will be having a similar engagement next week with the leadership of all registered Political Parties.
The said engagement will be organised by The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) in Freetown.
