Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) has unveiled home builder and construction company, “Groupe Djata” with plans to build 5,000 affordable housing to cope with the increasing population growth in the urban areas across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing at OAU Drive, Tower Hill in Freetown on Friday, the Chief Executive Officer of SLIEPA, Sheku Lexmond Koroma announced that the Togolese estate developer has plans to improve housing affordability and sustainable development of urban areas within the country.

He said the investment group has demonstrated seriousness to commence work in earnest. But he did not elaborate.

Groupe Djata’s Vice President, Coffi Franck Akpahounka said they are happy to commence operations in Sierra Leone in earnest. He said the company has existing investments elsewhere in Africa including in its home country Togo.

Akpahounka said the group wants to complement Government efforts in the development arena to tackle the crucial housing deficit in the urban areas, asserting that the group knows the housing problem of the continent. However, he did not mention the methods for acquiring the homes.

He said they can build 5,000 homes within 14 months in addition to providing effective water and electricity networks for domestic use in the homes, thus providing employment opportunities for local contractors and using local equipment.
