The equipment imported by a Ghanaian road construction company for the Kpetema-Mattru Jong road in the Bonthe district has been relocated from the Queen Elizabeth Quay II in Freetown to the site in Mattru Jong in Pujehun to start work in earnest.
Maripoma Enterprises Limited which won the competitive bid a few months ago, imported equipment worth US$10 million-two times what is needed for the project in anticipation of completing it in record time, the companyโ€™s General Manager in Sierra Leone, Dennis Bango announced in Mattru Jong on Sunday, as more jobs are expected to be created for dozens of competent Sierra Leoneans when work commences.
Mr. Bango said the 42.6 kilometers road project will cost about US$24 million with loans from BADEA (the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa), and funding from the Government of Sierra Leone.
Maripoma Enterprises imported 64 units of various vehicles for the project including four units of track excavators; two units of motor graders; two units of backhoe loaders; five units of vibratory soil compactors; 20 units of tippers; one unit of oil tank; two units of fuel tankers 22.5ki; two units of water tankers 22.5ki, and four units of Art-heads.
The construction of this road will be expected to foster trade and promote the movement of essential commodities for social service in a district where good road is almost nonexistent.
When the equipment was unveiled over a week earlier, the Country Director of the company, Mahama Ayariga said they won the competitive bid due to the โ€œvery good investment climate that has been created in Sierra Leone.โ€
He claimed that the company has been invited to several countries but it chose to come to Sierra Leone, as Mr Ayariga said: โ€œWe believe that the Government of Sierra Leone has created the appropriate investment climate.โ€
He said: โ€œWe have come here to make a statement that Sierra Leone is a good place to do business and we are hereโ€ฆ if you look at the equipment that we have brought in, you can see that we are here to stay as permanent partners in the infrastructural development of Sierra Leone.โ€
