The Chief Immigration Officer, Andrew Jaiah Kaikai, has confirmed in an exclusive interview with the Global Times last night that his department will introduce new sets of passports with โ€œimproved security featuresโ€ soon. He noted that there is currently a huge demand for ordinary passports.

Chief Kaikai appealed to the public to be patient as efforts are being made to get the new sets of passports in the country probably before the end of this month.

Chief Kaikai refused to comment on reports that the current fees paid for passports might be adjusted in line with the fluctuation of value of the US dollars.

The contract between the Government of Sierra Leone and Netpage Sierra Leone Limited pegged the fee for an Ordinary Passport at US$100 which is currently Le1,800 (One thousand eight hundred Leones). Chief Kaikai refused to comment on the speculation saying, โ€œI cannot rule out or rule in anything at the momentโ€.

A spokesman for Netpage (SL) Limited told the Global Times last night that they were in talks with senior officials of the Government of Sierra Leone on the implementation of the adjusted fees of Le1,800 (One thousand eight hundred Leones).
