The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu and a cross-section of the Executive Management Board (EMB) members of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) were in Kailahun District during the past weekend to upgrade the security status within the District.

According to the IGP, the purpose of the tour was to assess the Police posture in the District and interacts with stakeholders; noting, that Kailahun District shares a border with Guinea and Liberia.

This disclosure came into effect after the IGP and his entourage were given a red carpet welcome by the people of Kailahun District, subsequently followed by a well-attended meeting between the SLP and indigenes of the Kailahun District, at the Kailahunย  Police Divisional Headquarters.

Hon. Hindolo Moiwo Ngevao, Hon. Sartie Banya, Paramount Chief of Luawa Chiefdom, Mohamed Sama Kailondo Banya, Retired AIG Morie Lengor, and other stakeholders within the District were present.

While the IGP and team continued touring the District, they proceeded to Buedu, the Chiefdom Headquarter town of Kissi Tongi where they met with PC Sahr Nyuma Sengu, who is 107 years old and one of the oldest Paramount Chiefs who has been on the throne for over thirty-seven (37) years and the Chiefdom Speaker – Chief Michael Kendor granted the IGP the opportunity to briefly talk to the chiefdom authorities and the youths on issues relating to the security of the Chiefdom.

The IGP and team finally ended the tour at Koindu Town after a brief meeting at Dia, the Chiefdom headquarter town of Kissi Kama Chiefdom, touring almost all four (4) chiefdoms within the Kailahun District.

Concerns raised by the Chiefdom people were, increasing Police presence in their chiefdoms, recruitment of their youths into the Police, and upgrading of the Koidu Police station and the road network. The IGP promised to share their concerns with the Chairman of the Police Council.
