The President of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association (SLPWA), Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu and a cross-section of her executive, with the support of the Inspector General of Police- Mr. William Fayia Sellu on Saturday 4th March 2023, officially handed over a newly constructed solar-powered water pump to the Police Wives and their dependants at Magburaka Police Barracks.
This gesture was well appreciated by the Police Wives and community members in Magburaka Town.
The initiative was centred around the desire of Mrs. Sellu to address the problem of water crisis envisaged by Police Wives and their dependants at various Police Barracks across the country.
Access to safe and clean drinking water was one of the felt needs expressed during the tour of Mrs. Sellu sometime in August 2022.
After her tour, Mrs. Sellu together with her executive and with the support of the Inspector General of Police solicited support from friends and other well-meaningful organizations to address some of these perpetual problems.
Six Police Barracks namely: Kissy Police Barracks, Jui, Kossoh town, Mayeami, Magburaka, and Old Police Barracks in Bo are the beneficiaries of Mrs. Sellu’s developmental strides.
During the handing-over ceremony at Magburaka Police Barracks, the Paramount Chief of Kholifa Rowalla Chiefdom, PC Alhaji Masakama Kanamka III, welcomed Mrs. Sellu and the Inspector General of Police to his Chiefdom.
He described the water project as “laudable”, noting that communities around the Barracks vicinity can as well benefit from the project.
He also pleaded with Mr. Sellu to consider Magburaka Division with mobility as the division lacks functionary vehicles for effective patrols.
Similar sentiments and concerns were expressed by other speakers notably, the District Officer of Tonkolili District Mr. Alfred N.P Saidu, AIG Sahr Y Senesie, and the Local Unit Commander of the said division.
In his Keynote address, the IGP encouraged the Police Wives to embrace one another for the development of the Association and take good care of the pump as sustainability and maintenance of the pump are very paramount.
He also pledged his total commitment to supporting women at all times.
In another development, as requested by the Magburaka police chief and other stakeholders the IGP has provided the Magburaka police station with a brand new patrol vehicle and two motorbikes to facilitate their transportation issues.
