With support from Irish Aid and Open Society Initiatives for West Africa (OSIWA), the Center for Accountability and Rule of Law (CARL) has, in partnership with PPRC and ONS embarked on Public Education ahead of June 24th Elections.

Topics in the public education include; Electoral Justice, Non Violence and the Proportional Representation (PR) System of elections.

On Friday, 26th May 2023, the team engaged youths and community stakeholders of Calaba Town with a special sporting event held at the Pa. Morlia Field.

The sporting event according to the various speakers is used to attract and entertain the community people with the aim of bringing them together and get their attention for peace education before, during and after the June 24th elections.

According to Jeremy Simbo from CARL, the non-violence and peace education continues at all regions and districts including hot spot areas and localities.

Election, Mr. Simbo said, is not a do or die thing, but a moment to vote for our leaders.

He encouraged the gathering to maintain peace in a lawful manner and not to involve themselves in any form of violence for someone`s happiness.

Mr. Jeremy Simbo further encouraged the youth not to take the law into their hands, but to follow the right channels and procedures whenever they feel aggrieved.

โ€œSalon is bigger than elections,โ€ Mr. Jeremy Simbo concluded.

Madam Josephine Panda from PPRC explained the role of PPRC and the importance of peace during election period.

She informed the gathering of the fourteen (14) Political Parties that are qualified to contest the June 24th elections.

Out of the 14 political parties, Madam Panda said, 13 have flag bearers and one without a flag bearer.

She called on all to maintain peace, as without peace there will be no business and schools; and thus encouraged all to give peace a chance and move towards a better Salone.

Other speakers from the Ataya Base, Okada Riders and security personnel made pertinent comments for peaceful elections.
