A spokesman for the Sierra Leone Police has confirmed the arrest in Liberia of Retired Chief Superintendent of the Sierra Leone Police, Mohamed Yaetey Yaetey Turay, in connection with subversive activities in Sierra Leone. He is due to be extradited to Freetown today, according to sources close to the Sierra Leone Embassy in Monrovia.
The Sierra Leone Government last week requested the Liberian Government to extradite Yaetey Yaetey to Freetown to be interrogated on allegations of involvement in subversive activities in Sierra Leone.
The well-known Liberia newspaper โ€œFront Page Africaโ€ reported yesterday that Yaetey Yaetey had been residing in Liberia since March 2022. He was dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police in May 2020.
According to a relative of Yaetey Yaetey, he (Yaetey Yaetey) was arrested by the Liberia National Police and held in custody incommunicado.
Police sources in Freetown confirmed that they have audio recordings linking Yaetey Yaetey to plans to destabilize Sierra Leone. They refused to elaborate.
A relative of Yaetey Yaetey disclosed that, since he (Yaetey Yaetey) left Sierra Leone in March 2022, he had never stepped foot on Sierra Leonean soil.
Investigations continue
