The Ma Dengn Association has launched its 2023 edition of the Ma Dengn Beach Festival with the theme: โ€œSalone Awujoh; alman de gehโ€ to pay homage to an important communal feast that brings families and communities together.
This year’s two-day event scheduled for December 16 and 17 at the gardens of the prestigious Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown, the Ma Dengn Festival would be expected to celebrate and promote Sierra Leone culture through delectable cuisine, cutting-edge fashion, literature, foot-stomping traditional and modern music, and arts and crafts.
During the launch of the edition at a ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown Saturday night, the organisers said the event would showcase the best in Sierra Leone music, art, fashion, cuisine, literature, and craftsmanship, using the Ma Dengn platform to export Sierra Leone to the world.
The associationโ€™s Chairlady, Ms. Sinkarie Sesay said the festival would be a โ€œpoignant sensory experience that amplifies our tried and tested formula that delivers quality performances, traditional craft expos on the grounds, and a vibrant marketplace reminiscent of days past.โ€
Meanwhile, the association said the festival would also provide a platform for many of the country’s most innovative enterprises to present and advertise their products, goods, and services in preparation for scaling up and investment opportunities, as well as get to network with other businesses and local/international consumers.
โ€œAn Awujoh at its core symbolizes the spirit of sharing and coming together where everyone can partake in the festivities. 15 years in the game, Ma Dengn has continued to embody this spirit of bringing people together and delivering elevated experiences that amplify the contributions of creatives to national development,โ€ Ma Dengn said in a statement.
A statement added: โ€œAt Ma Dengn’s Awujoh on the 16th and 17th of December, “alman de geh” sensational musical performances, an opportunity to learn about traditional arts and crafts and literature, delectable food and a community of like-minded people that love Sierra Leonean culture.โ€
โ€œCreate a space to celebrate Sierra Leone’s diverse culture through the provision of visual and tactile experiences to educate festival goers about our traditions history and the future of Sierra Leone’s creative spaceโ€ฆ Build strategic partnerships with brands organisations and individuals to make it happen.โ€
