The Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina and his Regional Coordinator and Migration Focal Person, Mr. Farama Joseph Bangura, are participating at the ongoing 74th Session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is a United Nations agency mandated to aid and protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people, and to assist in their voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement to a third country.
At the Meeting, representatives of government and other International Organizations will discuss humanitarian issues within the programme of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees Executive Meeting in Geneva. This year, the rights of refugees, internally displaced persons, asylum-seekers, and stateless persons are among the items on the agenda of the meeting.
Over the years, the UNHCR has found out that many Member States have abused the rights of refugees and other asylum seekers, among other things.
In this regard, Sierra Leone is recognised by the UNHCR for the continuous progress in the response to refugee affairs under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio. The country is ahead of many countries in the development of good humanitarian policies, laws and their implementation in protecting refugees, asylum-seekers, the internally displaced and stateless people in the country
At the high-level segment of the opening of the Meeting, statements were made by the High Commissioner of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, Mr. Filippo Grandi, the President of the Bureau of the 74th Session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, H.E. Ambassador Kadra Ahmed Hassan and other key speakers.
The Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina is expected to speak at the plenary to make a national case for the country in consultation of the progress made so far regarding productive policies, Laws and implementations.
The Session is scheduled for Monday, October 9 onto Friday, October 13, 2023.
