On the invitation of President Xi Jinping of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio is to embark on a three-day state visit to China between 28th February and 2nd March 2024, according to senior diplomatic officials in Freetown. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to diplomatic sources, President Xi and President Bio are expected to sign new bilateral agreements in the interest of both countries. The agreement for the construction of the Lungi Bridge is expected to be signed by President Bio whilst in China. President Bio is expected to renew calls for foreign direct investment from China, according to State House sources.
President Bio made his first state visit to China in August 2018, four months after being sworn-in as the newly elected President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Recently, the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China, His Excellency Abu Bakarr Karim, presented his letter of credence to President Xi Jinping of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China.
President Xi Jinping assured Ambassador Karim of Chinaโ€™s willingness to strengthen diplomatic ties with the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Meanwhile, President Bio expected is expected to be accompanied on the state visit to China by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Finance and some heads of departments and agencies
