There is a growing consensus in the House of Parliament against the widely reported unsolicited takeover bid for Sierra Rutile Limited by Craig Dean trading as PRM Services.
Senior ruling party and opposition Members of Parliament are all implacably opposed to any form of monopoly in the mining sector.
A senior ruling party member of Parliament yesterday informed the Global Times that, he was preparing to introduce a private memberโs motion in the House of Parliament against the unsolicited takeover bid of Sierra Rutile Limited by Craig Dean of Gerald Group and its subsidiary Marampa Mines Limited.
โWe cannot allow one man to dominate the mining sectorโฆThat person can end up holding the entire country to ransomโฆWe are going to oppose that takeover bidโ, one senior ruling party member of Parliament from Moyamba said last night.
A senior opposition member of Parliament from Port Loko district said, โWe cannot allow one man to have such dominance in the mining sectorโฆItโs a threat to national securityโฆNo way!โ
A retired Sierra Leonean Geologist who worked for Sierra Rutile for seventeen years warned the Government of Sierra Leone not to allow an unknown cowboy to takeover such a viable national asset. โThe Government of Sierra Leone should conduct due diligence on Craig Deanโs private vehicle PRM Services to ascertain who are the hidden hands behind the company, where their funding is coming from and where the company is domiciledโฆThe Government should also be interested to know the history of PRM ServicesโฆIs it owned by Gerald Group or just a private vehicle owned by Craig Dean?
Meanwhile, it is rumoured that a Chinese company is also interested in taking over Sierra Rutile Limited.
Craig Dean is offering US$30M for shares in Sierra Rutile that do not belong to his company.
Sierra Rutile Limited last year posted a US$75M profit from their operations.
Investigations continue.
