Speaking under S023 in the well of Parliament yesterday, political firebrand and SLPP Member of Parliament for Kono district, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina, condemned in no uncertain terms Craig Deanโs unsolicited takeover bid for Sierra Rutile Limited.
Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina who is the Deputy Leader 2 of the governing SLPP in Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Mines and Minerals emphasized that, as a Committee, they would not allow one man to dominate the mining sector. โAs a Committee, we strongly and unreservedly condemn Craig Deanโs attempt to monopolize the mining sector by trying to takeover Sierra Rutile Limited after he had acquired 90% shares in Marampa Mines LimitedโฆWe cannot afford to prop up another Jamil Sahid Mohamed in this countryโฆWhen Jamil Sahid Mohamed monopolized the export of gold and diamonds from Sierra Leone, he held the nation to ransomโฆ He became more powerful than even the elected President of the countryโฆWe cannot tolerate that situation to recur in Sierra Leone againโ, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina emphasized. He added that, monopoly serves as a barrier to free market and breeds dictatorship and arrogance.
The host MP for Sierra Rutile Limited in Bonthe district, Hon. Fatmata Bintu Bockarie also condemned Craig Deanโs bid for the takeover of Sierra Rutile Limited. โWe will not accept Craig Dean in our placeโฆLet him just hands-off Sierra Rutile LimitedโฆOur people deserve better than Craig Deanโ, she said.
She complained that, Craig Deanโs MML refused to meet with the Parliamentary Oversight Committee even though they were notified of a regular oversight visit.
APC MP for Moyamba district, Hon. Alpha Mansaray, APC Deputy Leader 2 in the House of Parliament Hon. Aaron Koroma and SLPP Member of Parliament for Kono district, Hon. Musa Fofana collectively spoke against any monopoly in the mining sector and condemned Craig Deanโs unsolicited takeover bid for Sierra Rutile Limited.
Meanwhile, it is being reported that the Government of Sierra Leone is contemplating on acquiring between 20 and 25% shares in Sierra Rutile Limited.
Craig Dean is currently the subject of a joint investigation by the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Anti-Corruption Commission for alleged money laundering.
Investigations continue.
