In a short but impressive ceremony hosted at the forecourt of Police Headquarters, the Inspector General of Police – Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on Friday 5th April, 2024, received, on behalf of the Sierra Leone Police, 150 bags of rice (25 kg each), 20 Jerry cans of cooking oil, and 10 bags of sugar.
Delivery the items on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, His Excellency Ambassador Wang Qink used the opportunity to praise the fantastic work of the Sierra Leone Police in maintaining the safety and security of the State, and, in particular, for providing the Embassy with the required security details. The Ambassador referenced the June 2023 election; attributing its peaceful conduct and success to the untiring and relentless efforts of the Police.
His Excellency described the donation as a kind of gesture to the SLP’s Muslim community, and wished the organisation a big success, as it embarks on the new fight to eradicate the abuse of drug/Kush, generally combating crime, and keeping the communities safe.
The IGP, on his part, thanked the Embassy through His Excellency, for the donation; noting, that Ramadan is a period associated with love and sharing. Mr. Sellu acknowledged the existing cordial relationship between Sierra Leone and China, which, he said, dates back to the 70s and 80s. He pledged the SLP’s commitment to unrelentingly pursue its mandate of maintaining the safety and security of the State and to support the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, at all times.
Handing over of the donated items to the Inspector General of Police formed the high point of the ceremony
