In a heart-wrenching murder case, Hawanatu Hawa Koroma appeared at Pademba Road Court on February 10, 2025, facing charges of killing her husband, Nabieu Bangura, by allegedly dousing him in fuel and setting him ablaze.
The court heard compelling evidence from a Scene of Crime Officer, casting a shadow over their once-shared life.
The charge stems from an incident in which the accused is accused of pouring fuel on her husband and setting him ablaze, ultimately leading to his death.
Hawanatu Hawa Koroma is before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Court No.2 along Pademba Road in Freetown facing one count charge of murder.
The details on the charge sheet indicate that the incident occurred on November 22, 2024, at the back of Leicester Peak Junction in Freetown.
During the hearing, Detective Police Constable 13274 Bangura H, the fifth prosecution witness and a member of the Scene of Crime Office at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters along Pademba Road, in Freetown, provided crucial testimony.
He detailed his responsibilities, which include visiting crime scenes, witnessing autopsies, and documenting evidence through photography.
The witness recounted that on November 25th, 2024, he observed an autopsy on the remains of Nabieu Bangura at the Connaught Hospital Mortuary in Freetown.
After the deceased’s relatives identified the body, Sergeant 10601 Macarthy A.J. utilized his common digital camera to capture photographs of the postmortem process.
These photographs were subsequently printed, organized into a photographic album, and secured in police custody.
The digital camera used for these images was produced and submitted as evidence in court, labeled as Exhibit F, while the photographic album was marked as Exhibit A1-14.
Detective Constable Bangura’s testimony was followed by a cross-examination conducted by A.N.D. Musa Esq.
In light of the gravity of the charges and the evidence presented, Magistrate Bangura denied bail for the accused and ordered her remanded at the female correctional facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 17th February
