The Chairman of the Association for Welfare and Advocacy of Retired Military Officers (AWARMO) Brig. Gen. (Rtd) KES Boyah has said in Freetown that their mission is to provide welfare and financial assistance to all retired RSLAF officers.
Brig Gen Boyah was addressing retired senior Army officers at the Senior Officers Mess at Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown on Saturday, 3rd January 2026 during an end of year reunion party.
He said that AWARMO-SL is nonpolitical and wholly detached from political affiliation or ideologies, noting that their sole focus is the welfare of their membership.
Chairman Boyah said the association was initially formed in 2017 by senior retired RSLAF officers as an online social media platform to serve as a companion tool for retired officers to share health information, personal development or adverse setbacks. Later, he went on, the association gradually transformed from a social media group to a welfare-focused organisation that is now registered as a non-political organization since last year.
So far through the cooperation and support of its members, Rtd Brig Boyah said they have been able to raise more than Le400,000 to cater for the following: the sum of Le5,000 each in financial healthcare assistance to over 50 members (b) the sum of Le10,000 each in funeral assistance support to 40 bereaved families of fallen comrades, (c) the sum of Le 10,000 as financial assistance to selected retired and other ranks of the RSLAF in 2024.
He said President Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio a fellow veteran and a member of AWARMO met with a cross section of members of the association at State House recently and during the visit their visit he donated the sum of Le500,000 as a demonstration of endorsement and moral support to the association.
He expressed grateful thanks to President Bio for the support.
