As a guest at the recently concluded First Lady’s meet the people meeting in London, Hon Robin Faley eloquently appealed to the mammoth audience that the strength of any productive political party lies in the solidarity of the membership and the inclusive environment within the party. Hon Robin Faley, who is now classed as one of the new peace ambassadors in the SLPP, partnered with the First Lady Madam Fatima Bio to tell the audience that the SLPP party’s strength lies in the solidarity within the ranks of the party.
Faley reminded the audience that the growing tensions within the party is a grave concern, but that in the heat of political battle, it is easy to lose sight of the foundational values that brought us together. As members of this party, we often disagree on the best path forward, but we must never lose sight of the shared dream that drives us.
Recent tensions within our ranks have threatened to distract us from our purpose, Faley affirmed. But history teaches us that a divided party cannot successfully defend its values, nor can it unite the country. Without unity, our ability to serve effectively is compromised.
Hon. Faley commended the First Lady Madam Fatima Bio for addressing the party members and for publicly apologizing to whosoever she may have hurt in recent years and also for offering forgiveness to those who may her have crossed her path too.
Hon. Faley, therefore, joined the First Lady to call for an immediate commitment to peace, reconciliation, and solidarity.
The erudite public speaker emphasised that internal discord does more than create headlines and that it erodes the electoral value of our party label and that when our voters see a divided house, they question our competence to handle the nation’s affairs. We risk turning our potential supporters away when we prioritize personal grievances or ideological purity over our collective goals.
The power of perspective unites us than divides us. Our differences, while real, are secondary to our common commitment to our core principles. We should all consider ourselves as partners in building a better future and not as enemies competing for personal gain, Hon Faley emphasised.
In Hon. Faley’s final submission, he noted that Unity is a choice, and it requires moderation, breadth of vision, and generosity.
What is highly needed at these critical moments is dialogue and that through listening, it is possible to respect our differences, defeat prejudice, and open new possibilities. Let us, therefore, embrace issue-based politics rather than personal insults and confrontations. He concluded by humbly urging all members, leaders, aspiring candidates, activists, and supporters to conduct themselves with mutual respect. Let us channel our energy into strengthening our grassroots organization and supporting one another rather than attacking fellow members.
The goal is not to eliminate debate but to ensure that our disagreements make us stronger, not weaker. Let us work together to strengthen our social contract and solidarity, ensuring we are a united force in the upcoming elections.
It is time to come together, repair our relationships, and move forward as a cohesive team. Our supporters and our country deserve nothing less.
Only in solidarity can we comfortably secure another mandate from the electorates, sustain president Bio’s legacies, and continue to keep the main opposition APC party in opposition. Many political pundits have commended Hon Robin Faley for such a fantastic display of openness and frankness in addressing the issues and stressing the need for teamwork to overcome divisions and maintain harmony within the party.
