The new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, yesterday pledged to take Sierra Leoneโ€™s diplomacy and foreign policy to the next level.

Speaking at the official formal handing-over ceremony at the Ministryโ€™s Tower Hill office inย  Freetown yesterday, Minister Swaray said he was assuming office at a time when the Chief Diplomat, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, ably assisted by the outgoing Minister, had laid a solid foundation and strengthened the Ministry. He noted that he was not starting afresh.

While commending President Bio for the confidence reposed in him to continue to serve Sierra Leone, Minister Swaray also commended the outgoing Minister for strengthening Sierra Leoneโ€™s voice on the global stage.

In his remarks, the outgoing Minister, Hon. Timothy Kabba, thanked His Excellency President Bio for given him the opportunity to serve Sierra Leone for eight unbroken years. He added that through His Excellencyโ€™s leadership, the countryโ€™s foreign policy had been consolidated.

He noted that his tenure at Foreign Affairs was characterized by dedication and astute international engagement.

The former Minister further informed the incoming Minister that Sierra Leone had established four new embassies in France, Algeria, Ireland and Qatar.

The brief but impressive ceremony was chaired by the Director General of Foreign Affairs, Alan Logan
