The Ministry of Internal Affairs yesterday issued a press release refuting rumors about the death of Zainab Sheriff, an inmate at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown. The Ministry described the rumor as โ€œfake newsโ€.

The Ministry confirmed that Zainab Sheriff only complained of sick and had been given the requisite medical attention like any other inmate in the custody of the Sierra Leone Correction Service.

Zainab Sheriff was sentenced in April 2026 to four years and two months imprisonment for incitement and using threatening language.
