Despite what the President Bio administration wants to lead the world to believe especially human rights organizations, it is evidently clear from what is obtaining within Sierra Leone that political opponents of the Bio government, are not safe in the country.
Since President Maada Bio took office in 2018, record numbers of Sierra Leonean citizens have fled the country to seek political refuge elsewhere.
Some opposition citizens prefer to die crossing the Mediterranean Sea rather than stay in Sierra Leone and face the wrath of a government which has record numbers of political prisoners jailed with the government also having committed mass murders in its quest to silence dissenting voices.
Young people like the late Evangelist Samson, have died having been summarily executed just for protesting.
Talking of protest, a young man called Ibrahim Fofana who is also fondly known as Jordan, is currently in hiding fearing for his life.
Fofanah is a member of the main opposition All People’s Congress Party who chose that way because of his love for the APC.
On August 10, 2022, there was a nationwide protest in which many protesters lost their lives. Months after that protest, plain clothes police officers visited Ibrahim’s boutique in the city of Freetown and arrested and detained him claiming that he was part of that protest which act the government deemed to be treasonous.
Although Ibrahim was released on bail he was to report to the police every month which was highly troubling for him.
In June 2023 Ibrahim was arrested at a polling station where he had gone to cast his vote with his accusers saying that he wore red t shirts which is the colour of the opposition APC.
He was beaten black and blue and detained.
The whereabouts of Ibrahim is unknown since that ugly incident.
His family has been worried about his wellbeing and the refusal of law officers to establish a contact with him is making the situation scary.
