Fighting COVID-19… Chinese President Commends President Bio

On Friday 7th May 2021, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio had a 35 minutes conversation with his counterpart, His Excellency, President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship between Sierra Leone and China.

President Bio congratulated President Xi Jinping and the People of China on the anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. He also congratulated him on his leadership response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in particular, his impressive leadership in reducing poverty in China as well as his contribution to international peace and security.

His Excellency, President Xi Jinping also congratulated the Government and People of Sierra Leone on the 60th Independence Anniversary and in particular, commended President Bio for his impressive leadership and response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. He praised him for the sound economic management that will benefit the people of Sierra Leone and re-affirmed China’s support to build a strong, credible and long-lasting bilateral relationship with Sierra Leone. He also commended President Bio’s leadership as Chairman of the African Union (AU) Commit-tee of 10 for the reform of the United Nations Security Council and support for the African Common Position.

President Bio stated that 50 years on “I am proud of the very strong friendly, cordial and positive relationship between China and Sierra Leone and wish to build on and deepen this relationship beyond 50 years,” President Bio concluded.

President Xi Jinping extended an open invitation to President Bio to visit China for the second term since he assumed office in April 2018.
