Fatmata Mansaray being a citizen of Sierra Leone is entitled to be mutilated one which she has continuously and vehemently refused till date because of the many negative consequences associated with the practice. Her family members and society are unhappy with her actions and have resorted to threatening her life. The situation gets worse when she began advocating and educating young girls about the dangers of FGM and the need not go through the initiation.
Recently, the Paramount Chief of Nimikoro Chiefdom Kono district PC Aiah Dominic F. Bona in a letter addressed to Fatmata said he has received complaint about her anti-FGM activities in the Chiefdoms and that she must appear at their secret bush for questioning. He further reminds her that FGM as part of their tradition that must be accepted by everyone and that her family members including her mother have participated on its dispensation.
Because of the surrounding circumstances Fatmata is presently on the run trying to save her life. According to information reaching this medium, stakeholders from Kono District in the Eastern Province of the country have dispersed youths to go in search of her questioning and forceful initiation. According to Fatmata her brother Sheku Abu Mansaray escapes with her from Kono District to evade death. Sheku who was forcefully initiated into the Poro Society but stoutly against such tradition is also presently on the run because the Chiefdom people see his action of helping Fatmata escaped a violation of their tradition and want to subject him to cruel punishment that he can hardly survived.
FGM has always been a vice in Sierra Leone many precious souls have successive governments have failed to abolish it First Lady Fatima Bio in a radio interview in Freetown said she is a circumcised woman so cannot campaign for the abolition of the practice. Recently, two young girls lost their lives during FGM initiation in Freetown a matter the police is yet to update the public about it status.
This medium tries to get the view of the Chiefdom elders but to no avail. According to P.C. Aiah Dominic F. Bona the Chiefdom will not subject itself to any interview by a journalist neither are they willing to abandoned their tradition even in the face of death
