A well-known political activist in Kono District east of Sierra Leone, Sahr Mobie Babonjo the Youth Organizing Secretary and youth campaign leader of the opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) in Constituency 028 Tombodu Town, is presently on the run.
According to report gathered by this press, Sahr Mobie Babonjo was engaged in sensitizing youths against youth violence in the country during the electioneering and campaign period.
He also opened a teashop (Ataya base) in Tombodu Town where he engaged youths and campaigned them and also sensitise APC youth about youth violence during and after elections so that youths all over the constituency will be useful in society.
According to reliable sources, few days after the All Peoples Congress Party lost the election to the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Sahr Mobie Babonjo’s life came under serious threat, his house was raided by people who identified themselves as supporters of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party but to no avail, he was later chased to his shop he was found, he was beaten mercilessly in his teashop and was locked up in the teashop to be burned alive. He was saved by few of the brave youths around the shop at the time.
He was later taken to an unknown location by the Police who arrived at the scene a few minutes later.
An insider said that the SLPP youth will not stop looking for Sahr Mobie Babonjo until the lynch him.
A family member confirmed to this press that, Sahr has to flee to safety as the treat to his life after he was released by the Police became unbearable.
This reporter also reached other family members of Sahr Mobie Babonjo but they said that the where about of their son is unknown. Up till press time the where about of 63Sahr Mobie Babonjo remains unknown.
It will be recalled that, Since the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) won the last elections, there has been widely reported cases of thuggery, intimidation, and harassment meted on some opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) party members, some of which victims’ whereabouts are unknown. Investigations conducted by this press proved that APC supporters who actively took part in the last elections are constantly attacked in the ruling party south and eastern stronghold. It was also reported that soon after the general elections this year, a good number of APC supporters were chased with sticks and machetes out of their towns and villages in Kono District, Bo district, Kenema district and other villages and towns in Sierra Leone.
