Information reaching this newspaper has revealed that Inspector Rebecca Kadi Bangura, formerly of 86 Sorie Town in the west end of Freetown, is now on the run fearing for the safety of her life after she was declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police on allegation that she was part of the people that planned to overthrow the Government of Sierra Leone on Sunday, 26 November, 2023
According to our investigations, Inspector Rebecca Kadi Bangura, was an Operations Security Division (OSD) Officer in the Sierra Leone Police for over twenty years.
We also found out that Rebecca was the girlfriend of one of the leaders of the failed coup d’etat, retired Superintendent of Police Idriss Kamara, popularly known as Leather Boot and who is reported to have been killed by Government Security Forces in an exchange of fire on that fateful day.
Superintendent Idriss Kamara also known as Leather Boot was a Body Guard to former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
Our investigations further found out that most of the meetings for the planning of the coup used to be held at Rebecca’s home where she was living with her children.
We also found out that Rebecca also used to give sensitive security information to her boyfriend, Mr. Idriss Kamara also known as Leather Boot, regarding the movements and deployments of security personnel to strategic government installations and officials.
A middle aged man who claimed to be very close to Rebecca told this Reporter that on the evening of attempted coup, November 26 last year, armed Soldiers and Police Officers descended on their community, claiming that they were looking for Rebecca in connection with an attempted coup.
He further revealed that the security personnel ransacked Rebecca’s house, beating people and set the house on fire in which one person reportedly died.
When this Reporter requested for an interview with Inspector Rebecca Kadi Bangura, the man told him that they did not know her whereabouts as she had Rebecca travelled overseas in early November 2023 on a Police assignment and has not returned.
The man also disclosed that unidentified people continue to visit the community asking for Rebecca and making threatening remarks that they will kill her the day they see her.
A Police source stated that Inspector Rebecca Kadi Bangura and Mr. Idriss Kamara also known as Leather Boot were very close to the former President Ernest Bai Koroma and most of the people who have been arrested and are now standing trial for treason, mutiny and other felonious offences, punishable by life imprisonment.
When this Reporter contacted the Sorie Town Police Station, a senior Police Officer told him that they are looking for one Inspector Rebecca Kadi Bangura who is accused of being a suspect in the failed coup attempt of 26 November, 2023.
He disclosed that they have declared her wanted and put a reward of twenty thousand Leones (Le 20, 000. 00) for any body who will give them information that will leadย toย herย arrest.
