The Honourable Vice President who doubles as Chairman of the Police Council, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Friday, 30th January 2026, commissioned the newly constructed ultra-modern Ross Road Police Station, marking another milestone in government efforts to strengthen community safety and improve the welfare of police officers.
The ceremony brought together senior police personnel, community leaders, and residents, reflecting the close bond between the police and the communities they serve.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President emphasized that modern policing had gone beyond enforcement to include care, discipline, and partnership with communities.
He described the new facility as part of the governmentโ€™s โ€œhard supportโ€ for the police providing safe infrastructure, mobility, and communication tools while also highlighting the โ€œsoft supportโ€ of reforms, training, and human-centred policing that places citizens at the heart of security service delivery.
Dr. Jalloh noted that since 2018, government had invested steadily in police reforms, including improved mobility, construction of new stations and posts, salary and welfare enhancements, and ongoing recruitment and training.
He stressed that a conducive working environment, such as the Ross Road station, would encourage professionalism, discipline, and a 24-hour service culture essential to public safety.
The Vice President commended the Inspector General of Police and officers nationwide for their dedication, both at home and on international assignments, citing the professionalism of Sierra Leonean police contingents abroad.
He urged officers to uphold discipline and community trust, reminding them that effective policing was central to development, peace, and the everyday safety of citizens.
Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, described the commissioning as a significant and emotional milestone for the Sierra Leone Police, noting that the project had faced delays for several years before being revived.
He explained that construction stalled at different stages, but renewed commitment from government, following appeals made through the Police Council chaired by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, made it possible for the project to be completed.
The IGP expressed deep appreciation to government and partners for mobilizing the resources needed to deliver what he described as one of the most strategically located and important police stations in the country.
He emphasized that the new facility represented more than infrastructure; it signaled a shift in mindset and service delivery within the police force.
He assured the public of the police leadershipโ€™s continued commitment to reforms, including improvements in training, communication systems, and welfare, stressing that with sustained government support, the Sierra Leone Police would continue to deliver quality, people-centred policing.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Brima Kanneh, welcomed the Vice President and guests to the Western Area, describing the commissioning as the fulfillment of a long-standing initiative driven by teamwork and community support. He assured that officers would take good care of the facility, maintain its standards, and ensure its effective utilization to enhance policing, public safety, and service delivery in the community.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, David Fortune, in his address, noted that the facility represented more than just a physical structure, adding that it was a strategic investment in the professional growth, skills, and integrity of police officers, in line with the vision of His Excellency the President.
The Deputy Minister commended the Vice President, the Inspector General of Police, and the Police Partnership Board for their leadership and support, emphasizing that a modern and well-equipped policing environment would strengthen public safety, boost confidence in law enforcement, and create a secure atmosphere for communities and businesses to thrive.
Secretary General of the Police Partnership Board, Melvin Greene, thanked government and community stakeholders for their collective support in completing the Ross Road Police Station, describing it as a product of strong collaboration between the police, local communities, and business partners.
He noted that such partnership would strength trust, encourage community involvement in policing, and support the ongoing #transition of the police from a force to a service, while reaffirming the communityโ€™s commitment to peace, cooperation, and public safety.
The ceremony ended with renewed calls for continued partnership between the police and the public, as stakeholders reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, security, and people-centred policing.
