On Tuesday, 11th August, 2026 President Dr Julius Maada Bio announced a major cabinet reshuffle that saw the replacement of the Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, two of the major offices of state.
The Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura and Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba respectively, got redeployed to State House as Presidential Advisers.
Karefa Kargbo and Mohamed Rahman Swaray were appointed as Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation respectively. They are the two biggest winners in the new Cabinet.
The Commissioner General of NRA (National Revenue Authority) Madam Jeneba Bangura was reassigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as Deputy Minister.
Umaru Napoleon Koroma got promoted to the post of Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security. He was Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources.
Abu Kanneh was one of the biggest winners. He was promoted to the post of Commissioner General of NRA. He once served as Commissioner of Customs.
Prof. Foday M. Jaward who was dropped from the Cabinet as Minister of the Environment and Climate Change in 2023, becomes the new Ambassador of Sierra Leone to the Republic of Qatar.
Another rising star in the Bio administration, Edmond Nonie, becomes the new Deputy Commissioner General 11 of NRA. He was Deputy Minister of Energy 1. He is a good public communicator.
Prince Luseni becomes the new Executive Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, replacing Chief Andrew Jaiah KaiKai.
Dr Steven Jusu becomes the new Deputy Minister of Energy 11.
Foday Musa Fofana becomes the new Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources.
Meanwhile, the sudden replacement of the Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs has led to a lot of tongue wagging.
