The main opposition party, the All People’s Congress party (APC), have minced no qualm to inform the Government of the Sierra Leone People’s Party [SLPP] under His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio that their time of reckoning with the government is up. Before this threat, the APC party had earlier put forward certain demands with an ultimatum to His Excellency the President to fulfill otherwise the consequences. One of the demands is for the president to withdraw the appointment of Mr. Sylvester Edmond Alpha as Chairman of the Sierra Leone Electoral Commission.
In addition they are demanding the dissolution of the Tripartite Committee as well as the Steering Committee and the replacement of the head of the secretariat of that Committee, Mr. Ngolo Katta. They are even demanding the release of Zainab Sherriff from further detention. These demands must be met forthwith otherwise they will be organising a nationwide riot without further discussion.
2023 ELECTION RESULTS
Most of all, eight years into the elections that brought the SLPP government into power led by President Bio, the APC party has never rested on its political oars in challenging that result, promising some unbelievable and unpatriotic threats to national peace and decorum. They have shunned the courts of law and the national constitution as nonentity.
EXAMPLES
Earlier in the 2007 elections former President Ernest Bai Koroma had this threat as his election message to his partisans: “SLPP has no reason to win these elections. There is no way we will accept an SLPP victory. We will protest and we intend to protest violently.”
Fast forward into the 2023 elections, the APC party flag bearer now in political wilderness, Dr. Samura Kamara, had this threat to make: “If the APC party cannot win this election, we will continue to destroy this country.โ
Dr. Richard Conteh, APC party flag bearer aspirant for 2028 coming elections has threatened thus: “If the APC party cannot win that election, we will win.”
Hon. Abdul Kargbo in his political tirades from time to time reminds Sierra Leoneans that: “If this nation will not go to war is pitched on whether APC is not returned to power.”
As for APC’s Publicity Secretary Sidi Yaya Tunis, hear him say: “They say APC party is destructive and we will prove our destructive characters if we don’t win the 2028 elections.”
An APC Dr. Mohamed Fofana based in the USA had this to say: “We will wage war and kill all the Mendes. Mendes are “Halaki” people, useless and not fit to live in this country.” A friend told me about his encounter with this Dr. Fofana. According to this friend, this fellow’s hate for the Mendes is so “nasty” that he could not continue further discussion with him.
AN APC PARTY SUPPORTER DURING 2023 ELECTIONS CAMPAIGN: “We do not need Mende people in our party; they are bastard dogs and we will chop their heads when we return to power.โ
INHERITANCE
To continue to rule Sierra Leone at all times remains an inheritance obsession of the APC party. By all indications politics remains the ruling passion for them to make a living. Take for example, for the past 65 years of our Independence the APC party alone has ruled this country for about two-thirds of that period. They have used the same courts of law, the police, the military and the rest to fulfill their political goals. They have used the same courts of law to execute their own people for political purposes, let alone innocent people. Take for example the execution of their own Bank Governor Samuel Bangura, their own Vice President Francis Misheck Minah, and that political firebrand Ibrahim Bash Taqi of blessed memories. They had used the same courts of law to dishourably sack their own Vice President, Alhaji Sam Sumana who had to escape for dear life to live today. Today the same APC party have estranged the very national laws and courts that they had used wrongly or rightly, in favour of the international community to settle our national crises.
APC, A PARALLEL GOVERNMENT?
Why the APC partisans should think they are a parallel government to the SLPP government as to give the President a marching order is a wonder. Where on earth had an opposition party so arrogantly and brazenly given an ultimatum to a sitting president to do something in this country threatening to riot if not adhered to? Who do these people think they are in this country? Special citizens? Are they a parallel government to the SLPP government instead of a government-in-waiting?
TIME FOR RECKONING
By their threatening disposition all along the years, the authorities are kindly reminded that the opposition is not joking. They are threatening the destasbilisation of this country with venom, firm in their conviction that, they are capable of overthrowing this government. Those threats by them mentioned earlier must have by now fertilised enough to yield results. And when the APC party threatens to riot, they always do it bloodily. Remember August 9 and 10, 2022 riots, followed by an aborted coup on November 26, 2023? They slaughtered unarmed policemen, military men, they burnt down police stations, vehicles both private and government, hospitals and homes, killed innocent people. They called it a “peaceful” demonstration. This is the danger that now hangs over this peaceful nation planned to be carried out by the APC party.
CONCLUSION
By every manner of imagination, the APC party is settled on the premises of bringing another war to this country. And in war there are no scruples about benevolence or righteousness. People like the APC partisans cannot afford the luxury of their consciences even if it is justified. They are not joking; they have the resources with very rich people among them. Ex-President Koroma alone is rich enough to sponsor the party to hire mercenaries to come and wage a war here. Furthermore, there are many APC party fugitives lurking in the horizon ready to receive or take arms to destabilise this country.
As for us the Mendes, the message is clean and clear. We must be careful in our judgment in whatever political situation we find ourselves under the SLPP government presently. The APC party has singled out the Mendes out of the rest, for elimination when they return to power. They are not hiding their resentment
of our tribe. We must be careful in our political judgment no matter what. The Kenema Boys musicians particularly, must think twice in their musical renditions. Have they ever heard disgruntled APC party Temne or Limba musicians come out with such misguided musical rendition about the APC party government when in power? Unity therefore remains the life line of the Mendes today. If the so-called Honourable Abdul Karim could tie the prospect of war to the APC party returning to power or not, unity amongst the Mendes equally determines their survival and rights to remain Sierra Leoneans. We must unite because unity is strength!
Well, with the APC party planned nationwide riot to be, the challenge is now firmly in the court of government and state security. LET GOD SAVE MAMA SALONE FROM ALL EVIL MINDS AND HANDS.
