A former staff member of Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) , Alpha Kanu is reportedly on the run with his where about unknown, amid what multiple sources describe as coordinated effort by the police officers and individuals to be linked with the ruling Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP)
According to a civil society sources intimated this medium that Kanu became a person of interest after CGG release it June 2023 election monitoring report a document that an insider say ‘ did not sit well ‘ with senior government actors .
Sources further claimed that former CGG Staff including Kanu, came under increasing scrutiny following the fall out from the report.
Neighborhood , witnesses and individuals closed to the family reported that plain – clothes officers , believed to be a members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) made repeated visits to Kanu’s residence at 39 E Hill Cut Road and to his former workplace in attempts to track him down.
According to sources, the persistent raids and frequent questioning forced Kanu to flee the country in March 2025 , suddenly leaving his exact destination unknown.
Family sources allege that Kanu’s son , Joseph Kanu, has been arrested and tortured on several occasions by police seeking information about his father’s movements.
Despite these alleges abuses Joseph remains in Sierra Leone.
Where sources say he continues to face intimidation and gear of further detention.
As of press time , the Sierra Leone People Police and the SLPP not responded to questions regarding the alleged raids , arrests, or the reports of torture.
Human right observers say they are monitoring the situation closely as concerns grow over the safety of former CGG and the escalation of politically motivated intimidation
